Join us all summer long for FREE outdoor concerts on the beautiful William Styron Square!

The 2024 Port Warwick Summer Concert Series will kick off May 22^nd and runs every Wednesday from 6PM – 9PM.

Guests are encouraged to bring their blankets, chairs and small coolers, including libations.

Personal tents and umbrellas are not permitted.

Come early and grab dinner at one of the many Port Warwick restaurants. We will also feature a variety of local food vendors every week to choose from.

Please pay attention to parking signs as the private lots are reserved for residents and merchants of Port Warwick. Free parking for the event is provided at nearby Sentara Hospital (away from emergency room entrance).

Friday Night Concerts Coming to Port Warwick!

Concerts will be held on Fridays and start at 7 p.m. and will go about 1.5 hours

We’re excited for the first concert on June 7th!

The United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Band serves as the premier musical organization for U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and connects the Army to the American people. Based in Fort Eustis, Virginia, the TRADOC Band performs locally for public concerts, military ceremonies, and educational outreach programs while also maintaining a presence on the national stage. Soldiers assigned to the TRADOC Band are active duty, full-time

musicians performing in a wide variety of musical ensembles, having trained, and studied music at some of the finest colleges, universities, and conservatories in the United States and abroad.

We are excited for the 92nd season of our “Music Under the Stars” summer concert series to be held at Port Warwick. This vibrant location represents a wonderful opportunity to connect with the residents of the greater Newport News community in a setting known for high-quality music.

This year’s concert series will kick off with our season opener – a celebration of the U.S. Army’s 249th birthday featuring the large concert band, followed by bi-weekly performances by the TRADOC Band’s big band, brass band, and rock band. Additionally, the 208th Army Band’s big band visiting from Concord, NC will be featured on one concert mid-season. The “Music Under the Stars” series will conclude with our unforgettable season finale, featuring Tchaikovsky’s 1812 overture.

It is a privilege and an honor to collaborate with the Port Warwick Foundation, as both of our organizations share a commitment to providing free, high-quality entertainment to the entire local community.

21 June: 7 Cities Brass Band (rock, pop, funk)

12 July: The 208th Army Band Jazz Ensemble (WWll-era big band and patriotic classics)

26 July: TRADOC Rock (classic and modern rock n’ roll)

9 August: TRADOC Big Band (classics from the swing era) Canceled

23 August: 1812 Overture Season Finale (large ensemble favorites)

ATTENTION – WEATHER POLICY:

Our concerts are usually rain or shine with the late afternoon showers that are common during the summertime. With Hampton Roads’ weather you can never tell what it will be from one minute to the next. Nor’easters, hurricanes and prolonged days of rain result in the ground being saturated and pose a problem for the band and the sound engineer’s electrical equipment. Cancelations for these reasons are at our discretion and a decision will be made by 5:30 pm and will be posted on our website and Facebook page.

Parking

Parking is available in the Sentara parking lot. Please follow the event parking signs for the entrance on concert nights. There is no parking in front of the Emergency Room and in any coned off areas. Sentara supports the concerts by allowing the use of their parking lot and we do not want to lose that privilege. Also, please use trash cans distributed at the entrance and middle for discarding any items. Thank you.
